Flint Subsea achieves DNV Type Approval for Mid Line Weak Link

January 8, 2024

Flint Subsea are proud to have been awarded DNV Type Approval for their Mid-Line Weak Link Emergency Quick Disconnect (EQD) equipment.

The EQDs are mounted mid-line, either subsea or topside, and used to mitigate against vessel drift or drive off when performing pumping operations. The design features the ability to disconnect passively or actively when tension in a deployed hose subsea exceeds a predetermined limit. Upon disconnection, valves close off to prevent egress of the hose contents to the environment as well as sea water ingress if working at sub-ambient conditions.

The DNV Type Approval covers 2″ systems up to 15000 PSI with a range of end connections and operating temperatures. The design was assessed against, and found to comply with, API 17G, 6A and DNV OS E 101.

Flint Subsea’s technical director Gareth Black commented on the achievement, “We have been supplying these systems globally since 2017 and the addition of the Type Approval demonstrates our commitment to the quality of our products and will significantly streamline the supply of our standard product range”.
