Project overview

Flint Subsea supported a major energy technology company during an acid injection campaign offshore Ghana. The client required a safe, reliable disconnection solution capable of withstanding highly aggressive fluid media described as an acid pill. Our involvement centred around supplying Mid-Line Weak Link EQDs and specialised flushing tools to ensure safe handling, pressure integrity, and full operational readiness.

Application

Two rental Mid-Line Weak Links were installed midline within a flexible hose for acid‑injection operations. The equipment was mobilised from Flint Subsea’s UK base and integrated into the customer’s downline pumping spread.

Location and Water Depth

Location: Ghana, West Africa. Water Depth: ~1200m.

Operating Pressure

The deployment was rated to a maximum working pressure of 10,000 psi.

Why did the client approach Flint Subsea

Flint Subsea was selected for this application because the Mid Line Weak Link had the ability to be flushed after an emergency disconnection without discharging the acid pill contents onto the deck or personnel.

The Challenge

The acid pill required qualifying the EQD with FFKM seals.  Seal qualification including pressure and temperature cycling had to be completed quickly.

Objectives

  • Ensure safe and reliable operation with aggressive chemicals
  • Qualify and integrate FFKM sealing technology
  • Prevent operator exposure to hazardous chemicals
  • Provide a safe method for flushing EQD sections after disconnection

Our Approach

FFKM elastomer qualification with specialist testing. Adapted EQD architecture. Designed custom flushing tools to open valves safely. Equipment shipped in standard EQD crates.

The Solution

Delivered two Mid-Line Weak Link EQDs rated to 10,000 psi, FFKM seals, custom flushing tools, and an vessel ready product prepared to be used straight out of the box.

Results and Impact

Safe execution of acid injection. Successful deployment and operations without seal degradation or product wear. No chemical exposure to personnel.

Why choose Flint Subsea

Rapid response, deep expertise in EQD and chemically demanding applications, proven capability in qualifying specialised materials under tight deadlines.
